Easter Book Inspiration the Perfect Gifts for Easter

Easter is rapidly approaching, so it’s time to take a look at our round up of the very best of Easter books to treat the children to this year.

Easter Book for Babies

First up for the youngest of readers, we have Never Touch A Grumpy Bunny by Rosie Greening & Stuart Lynch from Make Believe Ideas.

This is a brilliant series perfect for little ones, or older children with some sensory needs. Each of the double page spreads has a fun rubbery, textured design in the illustration. There’s a funny rhyme for each illustration as well! I find my two sitting stroking the textured details when they need a moment or two to calm down. It is packed full of cute spring animals, great for acquainting children with the new animals of the season.

Easter Character Books

It wouldn’t be a holiday without some excellent new character themed books. We’ve got you covered whatever your child’s favourite might be! Our picks for toddlers and preschoolers this year are as follows:

Spot Easter Book

Find Spot At Easter by Eric Hill from Puffin Books.

Spot the Dog books are a classic for any toddlers bookshelf, and there’s no better place to start than a lift the flap book. Bright colourful illustrations, with large flaps revealing an assortment of animals and their babies, and a few surprises along the way too. The Spot books are really endearing, wholesome and nostalgic, and I’m yet to find a child that isn’t immediately drawn to the classic Spot.

 Peppa Pig

Peppa Easter Book

If Peppa Pig is more to your child’s tastes, you need to pick up Peppa’s Easter Basket from Ladybird Books.

The book is shaped like a fun Easter basket, and follows Peppa as she goes on an Easter egg hunt set up by Miss Rabbit. The shape means it can be easily carried around by toddlers, and older preschoolers will enjoy the familiar characters and activities too.

Hey Duggee

Hey Duggee Egg Book

Our favourite of the character books has to be Duggee! We find them so true to the fab TV shows. I find myself automatically reading them with the same intonation as the narrator.

Hey Duggee: Follow That Egg from BBC Children’s Books is a new book in the series, and perfect for this time of year. Rather than an Easter egg hunt this time, the Squirrels are chasing after an egg from one of the pet chickens! Be aware, there’s no Duggee Hug or badge in this one, but there is an exciting egg adventure.

Fantastic Picture Books

Next we have some glorious picture books, perfect for children aged three and upwards.

The Spring Rabbit: An Easter Tale by Angela McAllister and Christopher Corr from Quarto Kids.

The Spring Rabbit has a very traditional feel to it, which really sets this book apart. It’s all about a bird who is lying in the snow. Spring awakens from her winter sleep and turns the poor frozen bird into a rabbit with thick, warm fur. The other birds in the forest want to thank Spring. They gather eggs to present to her, which the rabbit does in a beautiful basket, making them the first Easter Bunny. This book really captivated us, we love an origins story here. The beautiful illustrations will really set the mood for a lovely Spring and Easter. Really gentle, calming story.

Mayor Bunny’s Chocolate Town by Elys Dolan from Oxford Childrens.

Mayor Bunny's Chocolate Town

This book on the other hand, is on the other end of the spectrum. It is bright, fun and just a bit silly! It’s all about Mr Bunny, who wants to be in charge. He decides the best way to do that is to become Mayor of Coop Town. And what better way to win over the chicken population than to promise to fix all their woes with chocolate? Everyone knows chocolate is a fox repellent, right? As you can imagine, this book will make everyone who listens to it laugh out loud. This is a longer picture book, great for slightly older children – we didn’t quite understand all the jokes from the illustrations. Next year I think we will love this even more. Really fun read.

One for Children over 5 years

Beautiful Eggs by Alice Lindstrom from Scribble UK. It’s bound to appeal to plenty of grown ups as well. This book explores the different egg decorating traditions from seven different countries around the world. The text is informative and engaging with beautiful illustrations to pour over. There is even an egg shaped template included so children can have a go at decorating their own Easter eggs – perfect activity for the Easter holidays. I guarantee you will be fascinated by this book, there’s so much to learn!    Find it here
